About Julie de Burgh - NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) Master Practitioner, Hypnotherapist, Traumatic Incident Reduction Practitioner, Integral Eye Movement Therapist
West London,
Ealing, W13

How I work
I have been a therapist for 25 years and specialise in assisting clients in removing the bad feelings from past traumatic expeiences which are affecting their feelings and behaviour in the present. Sometimes the connection is very obvious: clients complain of nightmares and flashbacks, and keep going over the past events compulsively in their heads, thus feeling the bad feelings all over again.

Sometimes the link to the trauma is less obvious, and clients complain that they lose their tempers unpredictably and sometimes violently, have bouts of depression and feeling helpless, worry unreasonably or unnecessarily about the future, feel guilt and responsible for other people’s reactions to them etc.

All problems are learned habits!
A good way to think about our negative reactions is that they are “knee-jerk” learned patterns, initiated out of conscious control so we feel we can’t stop feeling guilty, angry, depressed, stressed, worried, thinking negatively (always looking on the black side of life), and having arguments with our friends and those closest to us. These reactions are learned – we were not born like this – and they can be unlearned, and then more useful ways of feeling and behaving become possible. In my therapy I use a select number of effective techniques to help clients get beyond these negative ways of being.

We are not our negative feelings and behaviours
When we realise that there is an aspect of self which is untainted by our negative learned habits, we lose nothing by getting rid of them. The inner true self is not happy with feeling/behaving in negative and painful ways, and when these negative patterns go you can begin to live your life with more satisfaction and grace, and to the delight of the part of us inside that strives to find fulfillment in life.

My qualifications are:
Dip. THP early 1980s (Diploma in Therapeutic Hypnosis & Psychotherapy), NLP Practitioner 1983, Time Line Therapy Practitioner 1999, NLP Master Practitioner 2000 (In the USA with Julie Silverthorn & John Overdurf), Further Hypnosis training in Holland with Julie Silverthorn & John Overdurf, Training in Traumatic Incident Reduction 2005, IEMT Practitioner 2008 (Integral Eye Movement Therapy)

I have done a number of other training courses with Julie Silverthorn & John Overdurf, who are among the most skilled and highly considered NLP Trainers, and recently learned the NLP Coaching Model with them.

I am a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy and the British Board of Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

I am a qualified Social Worker (CQSW) and worked as a Medical Social Worker part-time for 10 years, prior to starting my private practice.

I am dedicated to helping clients reach their full potential and enjoy life more through hypnotherapy and NLP, and have a keen interest in continually expanding my skills as a therapist.
