FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Why have therapy at all?
Do you want to be free? – happy, relaxed and enjoying life?  What stops you?  The answer to that is what therapy aims to resolve by going to the root of the problem. I believe that what stops us leading totally fulfilling lives are patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that we learned in the past, and that these can be reversed.

Why hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is therapy done in  the calm state of light trance, a little like daydreaming; in this more open state, your unconscious mind is free to access the source of problems and resolve them more easily than can be done by dissecting them rationally. More about Hypnotherapy

What is NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)?
NLP
is very efficient compilation of effective techniques to promote rapid and lasting change. This is mainly based on how we create and experience the world, which is through our senses, i.e. seeing, feeling, hearing and to a lesser extent smelling and tasting. These are the units of our every experience and can be adjusted in certain ways to ensure our success and happiness.

What is Traumatic Incident Reduction?
It is a particularly client-centred and non-intrusive type of therapy that I have found to be extremely effective in promoting rapid and lasting change with traumas after accident, rape, burglary, mugging, injury assault, bulling. More about Traumatic Incident Reduction

What is Integral Eye Movement Therapy?
Integral Eye Movement Therapy is a very effective therapy that utilises the application of neurological principles in order to generate rapid change in any area of undesired neurological imprints. The I.E.M. therapy model answers the question, "How did the client learn to feel this way, about that thing?" and applies specific change at the right neuro-logical level. Clients have reported that even the most resistant emotional problems have been quickly resolved, usually in a single session! Identity beliefs and self esteem issues such as, "I am no good," "I am clumsy", "I don't have good memory" and so on can be rapidly addressed and resolved using the Integral Eye Movement Therapy.

How might this relate to me?
If you have repetitive patterns of behaving and relating that always leave you wondering 'Why ever did I say/do that?', 'Why do I always get so upset?' If you suffer from stress, depression, low self-esteem, panic attacks or phobias, if you are haunted by painful memories e.g. from an accident, the death of a loved one, or after having been the victim of crime, or from an unhappy childhood. If your relationships never seem to work out happily or last,  then therapy could set you free.

How can healing the past help?
There is a line in a Madonna song 'Nothing heals the past like the present'.  But why doesn't this happen most  of the time?  Why do we constantly repeat unhelpful patterns of behaviour?  Why do negative thoughts go 'round and round'? We only react and feel in a way that makes us unhappy in the present as a result of learned patterns in the past.  As a very simple example, a child constantly told, 'You can never do anything right!',  will not often grow up to be a self-confident adult.  And adults who have been in potentially life threatening accidents or have become victims of crime can end up experiencing panic attacks, insomnia, depression – or just not feel as settled or confident as they did before the event.  Even less apparently dramatic events, like the breakup of a relationship, can trigger the same feelings.

All these negative ways of being can be changed by going back to the memories where they were learned and releasing the painful feelings. I use special techniques that can easily and rapidly change the emotions around an event, so that it no longer has any negative effect in the present.

How long does it take to resolve problems?
In general, clients can resolve 'simple' problems in one session, perhaps two. Some people, having found a method of healing the past that really works, choose to have further sessions to clear up more of the blocks that prevent them from leading a fulfilling and happy life.
